Soap Bases
Our soap bars can be created with 2 different soap bases. We can customize any of our products ingredients and scents to meet your needs. We do ask that custom orders are at least "1 pound" or "4 bars". Please note that some items may require up to a 6 week production time.
Both of our soap bases are free of harsh detergents that can strip your natural oils and leave you with rashes and rough skin. These can be use on all skin types, including delicate baby skin, or aged and sun damaged skin. Our old fashioned soap base starts off as "100% all natural", however adding some colors or fragrance oils maybe decrease that to "98% natural".
Old Fashion Lye Soap
Old Fashion Lye Soap Our "Old Fashion" soap is the most "biblically correct" product we carry. The main ingredient in it is olive oil, one of the most common commodities in Jesus' time. Generous amounts of almond oil, grape seed oil, palm oil, hemp seed oil, castor oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter, and coconut oil (among others) may be used to create a bar of soap that will clean and nourish your skin. Additional items such as coconut, cow or goat milk, honey, essential oils, carrot juice, cucumber juice, rose water, various clays, red wine, genuine chocolate, tea, Deep Sea Mud, dried herbs, and dried flowers may also be added to create a unique bar of soap. **Some of our products may contain lamb fat, lanolin, or bee products such as wax or honey. We can customized our recipes, so that these items are excluded, if need be. Although many people like to think of their products as "animal free", remember that 2000 years ago, sheep were so highly valued and prized that Jesus referred to himself as "The Lamb of God"!
Did You Know?
**Most of the items you purchase in stores are not chemically classified as SOAP, and do not fill the "definition" of "SOAP"?
**The strict definition of SOAP is "The chemical reaction between sodium hydroxide and fat". "Sodium hydroxide" is commonly referred to
as "Lye" and "fat" can be any combination of various animal or plant fats or oils.
**In the soap making process (called saponification) the lye and fats chemically react with each other, the end result (soap) contains no traces of the original ingredients, thus there is NO lye in the end product.
**As recently as 100 years ago, households would have a "fat press" bucket located in their kitchen. All fat scraps from the dinner table would be thrown into this bucket. The oils from the bucket would be used for future cooking, candle making and soap making.
**Lye would be made in the backyard, by allowing rain water to filter through large barrels of fireplace ashes.
Glycerin Soap
Our "Glycerin Soap" bars are made out of a vegetable glycerin soap base. A common misconception is that "all glycerin soap is GOOD soap". But in reality, glycerin soap can contain harmful and irritating chemicals, solvents, and "sudzing agents". We have carefully researched our soap base to provide a premium soap that lathers great, softens your skin, and does not contain any type of harmful ingredients. Because of our concern for our customers, our glycerin soap is extremely gentle, and is great for use on delicate skin!
Did you know?
**Glycerin is a natural "humectant", it helps to draw and hold moisture to your skin! (Both our "ancient soap" and "glycerin soap" formulas contain a high amount of glycerin!)
**Glycerin soap has a very smooth texture and can come as "clear" "white" or "colored".
**Glycerin soap (before initial use) should be kept tightly wrapped and stored away from excessive heat, dampness or dryness.
Scents and Fragrances
We use two different types of scents for our products, Essential Oils (EO) and Fragrant Oils (FO). Either one of these (or both) may be used in our stock and customized items.
Essential Oils
Essential oils are all natural oils derived from steam distillation of plants. It can take hundreds of pounds of plants or flowers to create a single ounce of oil! These oils are obviously highly concentrated, and have been used for medicinal purposes since the beginning of time. Certain oils are known for relieving stress, soothing cramping muscles, relieving pain, deterring infection, even preventing nausea. Essential oils do not leave a strong residual scent in most soaps. However, their healing properties are still active. EO's have very "earthy" scents, some examples would be cedar, cinnamon, pine, myrrh, lavender and spikenard. If you have allergies to pollen, you may have allergies to Eo's, please contact us for more information.
Because these oils can have such tremendous effects on the body, pregnant or nursing woman should consult with a doctor before using them, and pregnant or nursing mothers as well as infants should avoid several of them. Ones to be avoided include: Rosemary, Wintergreen, Bitter Almond, Eucalyptus, Anise Seed, Lemon, Lemon Grass. These oils *may* increase blood pressure, or promote uterine contractions. Although the warnings are meant mainly to discourage the digestion or direct contact with with these items, we like to inform our customers about their negative characteristics.
Fragrant Oils
Fragrant oils are synthetic oils. There are thousands of different scents and combinations of scents available with fragrant oils, such as " Butter Rum" "Peaches N' Cream" and "Bubble Gum" and these scents tend to last longer then Essential Oil scents. There are no "positive health" properties in these oils (as compared to Essential Oils), they are for "aromatherapy" purposes only. These oils tend to be safer for use on pregnant or nursing woman, and small children.
